FHG/IMK

Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FHG) is a non profit research and development organization in Germany. It was founded in Munich in 1949. The FHG Society is an autonomous organization which currently maintains 58 research institutes and a patent office. FHG/IMK consists of 4 major Competence Centers and has 90 researchers from nearly 20 countries. The research and development activities of FHG/IMK encompass all facets of the new media, including content design, production, distribution, and interaction.

The Competence Center NetMedia of the FHG/IMK works in the area of media content management and multimedia retrieval. In the projects AGMA and Pi-AVIda FHG/IMK has developed several technologies and systems to generate MPEG-7 metadata and to recognize multimedia content. Currently, NetMedia is co-ordinator of the EU project SHARE. During the last 3 years the multimedia retrieval system iFinder was developed, which is a MPEG-7 based multimedia indexing system.
