Tele Atlas is a worldwide leading company in the development of detailed geographical databases, which form the basis for a broad spectrum of applications. The company's database covers 383 million inhabitants in Europe and 313 million inhabitants in the United States. Tele Atlas focuses on providing content to key market sectors including Telematics/Automotive Navigation, Location Based Services (LBS), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The company is actively increasing coverage and content on a global scale and is continuously updating, refining and adding detail to its map databases.

Tele Atlas actively pursues a continual evolution of its map data products and services in response to new market and technology trends. Tele Atlas’ vision is to enable clients, partners and the industry at large to develop technology that changes the way new environments are built and to build applications in the most efficient way. As a consequence, Tele Atlas is attentive to the shaping of the future landscape of the business of Tele Atlas and its clients. Organizationally, the Tele Atlas group is addressing this with a corporate business development approach to globally leverage potentials for all of its products and clients. This translates into the definition of dedicated strategies and their execution through technology innovation, collaborative R&D projects, and international technology, standardization, and business development projects. 

Tele Atlas is/was involved in several related EU projects such as COMPOSE, BRIDGE-IT, MOVIES, SHARE, Maps&Adas, ActMap, Agora, ADASIS, Highway, VICO, Ishtar, Mobvis. In BOEMIE, the technical management of the project for Tele Atlas will be done in Gent, Belgium, where most of the operational personnel involved are based. Nevertheless, some personnel from other countries will also be involved, e.g. Rob van Essen is based in the Netherlands. The financial administration will be dealt with by the Dutch headquarters.
