University of Milano enters the BOEMIE project through the Computer Science and Communication Department - DICO (Dipartimento di Informatica e Comunicazione). The department is devoted to teaching and research in all the disciplines regarding computer science and applications of computer-based systems. Research activities at DICO cover the following main areas: databases, information systems and knowledge management, data and network security, computer networks and architectures, multimedia systems and applications, computer applications to music, computational learning, logics, theoretical computer science. People of the Information Systems and knowledge management Laboratory (ISLab) of DICO will be joining BOEMIE. Current research activity at the ISLab is devoted to ontologies and semantic web, ontology-based knowledge sharing and evolution in open distributed systems, semantic interoperability, semantic information integration, Web-based information systems. On these topics, the ISLab is currently involved in the EU FP6 NoE INTEROP (Interoperability Research for Networked Enterprises Applications and Software), and in the national FIRB WEB MINDS research projects.
