BOEMIE Text Annotation Tool

Showcase – Annotating HTML/Textual documents with semantic information

This DEMO is intended to show the process of annotating an HTML/Textual document with semantic information, according to the BOEMIE semantic model. The provided demo software enables the user to annotate documents with information regarding entities (or mid-level concept instances as named within BOEMIE), but also to associate these entities with each other to form more complex instances of more abstract concepts (named as high-level concept instances within BOEMIE), essentially populating the BOEMIE ontology. Thus, this demo can be used for

  • Populating the BOEMIE athletics ontology with instances found in web documents. This population involves not only instances directly found in HTML documents (such as names of athletes or locations), but also instances of more abstract concepts such as an athlete.
  • Get a better understanding of the annotation effort required to port BOEMIE  into a new thematic domain
  • Evaluate the plausibility and ease of use of the annotation tool provided for semantically annotating HTML/textual corpora.
